BIA to publish final EIS for Cowlitz casino

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is publishing the final environmental impact statement for the casino sought by the Cowlitz Tribe of Washington.

The tribe wants 152 acres in Clark County places in trust. The land will be used for a $510 million casino resort.

According to notice that will be published in the Federal Register tomorrow, the "preferred alternative" would be to acquire the land, declare it a reservation and approve a gaming management contract. The final decision will be made on or after July 1.

The tribe was recognized through the BIA's regulatory process in 2000.
