Connecticut lawmakers won't back down on smoking

Connecticut lawmakers say they won't withdraw a bill that aims to ban smoking at tribal casinos.

The Mohegan Tribe and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation want to negotiate the issue. So does Gov. Jodi Rell (R).

But supporters of the bill plan to move ahead. The sponsors, mainly Democrats, say customers and workers deserve a smoke-free environment, similar to the state's ban on smoking in public places.

The Mohegans says 73 percent of the Mohegan Sun is already smoke free. The Pequots say 78 percent of the rooms and 25 percent of the gaming space at the new MGM Grand at Foxwoods are smoke free.
