Washington county passes anti-gaming resolution

Commissioners in Clark County, Washington, voted 3-0 on a resolution to oppose a "major commercial gaming facility" -- words apparently aimed at the casino sought by the Cowlitz Tribe.

The resolution, however, does not mention the tribe by name. It references the "unincorporated" part of the county, which is where the Cowlitz Casino would be located.

Commissioner Betty Sue Morris said the resolution applies to any type of major commercial gaming establishment, including card clubs. A tribal spokesperson pointed out that Indian casinos are not considered commercial developments.

The vote came amid meetings the county is holding on a potential agreement with the tribe. A prior agreement was struck down in the state court system.
