The city of Vancouver, Washington, filed suit against the National Indian Gaming Commission in hopes of stopping the casino sought by the Cowlitz Tribe .
The city says NIGC's approval of the tribe's gaming ordinance violates the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
The tribe's gaming site is not "Indian lands" and the tribe doesn't have a valid tribal-state compact, according to the lawsuit.
The tribe plans to build a $510 million casino on 152 acres in Clark County. The tribe meets an exception in IGRA for newly recognized tribes.
