BIA to hold public hearings on Mashpee casino bid

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is holding two public hearings this week on the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe's proposed casino in Middleboro, Massachusetts.

The tribe plans to build a 240,000-square-foot casino and a 1,200-room hotel. There's also a 6,500-car garage, an 18-hole golf course, a retail area and an events center in the works.

The facility would be located on 539 acres in the town. The casino will be discussed at the first public hearing tonight on Tuesday night.

Separately, the tribe is seeking 140 acres in the town of Mashpee for non-gaming purposes. A hearing on that component of the tribe's land-into-trust application is being held on Wednesday.
