California lawmakers oppose Class II regulations

A group of California lawmakers is asking the National Indian Gaming Commission to hold off on its Class II regulations.

The 22 lawmakers say the NIGC has no role in regulating Class II games like bingo. They say tribes should be allowed to take advantage of advances in technology and game design.

NIGC says the rules are needed because some Class II games look and play like slot machines, which fall into the Class III category. Class III games can only be operated under a tribal-state compact.

The comment period for the regulations ends March 9. Some tribes have asked for an extension.
