The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York accused Empire Resorts of abandoning their proposed off-reservation casino in the Catskills.
The Bush administration rejected the casino in January, saying it was too from the reservation. The tribe has filed a lawsuit in hopes of overturning the decision.
The tribe now says it will sue Empire Resorts, if necessary, over the failed $600 million casino. But Empire denies dropping the project, though executives confirmed to The New York Times that they are pursuing another gaming project.
Empire is now proposing to move the Monticello Raceway to the Concord Hotel, a famous but dormant resort in the Catskills. The tribe was supposed to use the racetrack for a Class III casino.
