Lawmakers in New York are introducing a bill that seeks to help the Shinnecock Nation open a casino.
The bill creates an 11-member task force to identify sites for a potential casino. Locations within 75 miles of the tribe's reservation on Long Island would be considered.
The tribe is recognized by the state. Its petition for federal recognition is next in line at the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
