The Wichita and Affiliated Tribes of Oklahoma opened its first casino last week.
The Sugar Creek Casino is on 5 acres near a major interstate. "I want to see the casino pay off so we can take care of our own affairs," Chairman Leslie Standing told The Native American Times.
Standing says provisions in a contract signed by his predecessor stand in the way of the tribe meeting its goal. He is questioning a $250,000 expenditure to update a community building.
The tribe is also considering a proposal to issue per capita payments to members.
