A forum at the University of New
Mexico-Gallup examined the impact of the new Navajo Nation that will open later this month.
Tribal representatives said the $35 million Fire Rock Casino will generate revenue for the tribe and jobs for Navajo people. “We have many mouths to feed,” attorney Raymond Etsitty of the Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise said, The Gallup Independent reported.
The facility is located near Gallup. But the site is only temporary -- the tribe plans to move the casino to a different site in a couple of years, representatives said.
In the past, Navajo voters have voted down gaming in reservation-wide referendums. The tribe decided to open casinos without putting the issue on the ballot.
