The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday rejected a lawsuit that claimed Harrah's Entertainment interfered with the development of a casino for the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York.
The tribe had an agreement with a developer for an off-reservation casino in the Catskills, about 90 minutes north of New York City. At the last minute, the tribe switched gaming sites and signed a deal with Park Place Entertainment, which was later acquired by Harrah's.
The original backers claimed it lost $1.8 billion due to Park Place's interference. The 2nd Circuit rejected the claim and said the contracts at issue were not enforceable because they had not been approved by the National Indian Gaming Commission.
The case is Catskill Development v. Park Place Entertainment.
