Mohegan Tribe sees slots drop in Pennsylvania

The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut is feeling the effects of the economy at its slot machine facility in Pennsylvania.

The Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs saw stellar revenues after it opened a temporary facility in November 2006. A permanent facility, with more slot machines, opened in July.

Revenue continued to rise in July and August, compared to the same months 2007. But revenue fell sharply in September and appears to be on a decline for October.

“It’s discretionary dollars, we’re going to feel it,” chief executive Robert “Bobby” Soper told The Wilkes-Barre Times Leader of the economic slowdown.

The tribe has seen similar declines in Connecticut and recently halted a $735 million casino expansion.
