A casino task force in Massachusetts is opening the doors to more local governments even though its current members aren't showing up for meetings.
Interest in the Regional Task Force on Casino Impacts has dropped in recent months. So the group voted to remind members to come to meetings and to expand its reach to include more governments.
The task force has been analyzing the casino sought by the Mashpee Wampanoag
Tribe. The group is encouraging Gov. Deval Patrick(D) to negotiate a Class III gaming compact with the tribe.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs
is still preparing an environmental impact statement on the tribe's
land-into-trust application. The tribe expects an answer sometime in 2009.
