The Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians of California has named Tracy Burris, a member of the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma, as a tribal gaming commissioner.
Burris has a long career in Indian gaming. He served as treasurer of the National Indian Gaming Association and vice chairman and chairman of the Oklahoma Indian Gaming Association. He also led the Chickasaw Gaming Commission.
"We are very proud to have Mr. Burris assume this critical leadership position,' Viejas Chairman Bobby L. Barrett said in a statement. "He has the experience, expertise and energy that will help Viejas build upon its reputation as a national leader in tribal gaming regulation."
The Viejas Band operates the Viejas Casino near San Diego.
