July was another less than stellar month for the two tribal casinos in Connecticut.
The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation saw a 3.2 percent drop in slot machine revenues at theFoxwoods Resort Casino. The Mohegan Tribe saw a much bigger 14.6 percent drop at the Mohegan Sun Casino.
Casino executives said gas prices and lack of confidence in the economy led to the decline. Competition in Rhode Island and New York keeps gamblers closer to home, they said.
Both tribes have seen a steady decline in slot revenues for the past several months. The Pequots saw a minor boost in June due to the opening of the new MGM Grand at Foxwoods. The Mohegans are debuting an expansion this month.
