Pojoaque Pueblo in northern New Mexico is getting ready to open what will be the biggest gaming facility in the state.
The Buffalo Thunder
Resort debuts August 12. The $245 million facility features a casino, a Hilton-branded hotel, a spa, a golf course, several restaurants and an art gallery.
Work on the new facility began before the downturn in the economy so the tribe was able to keep construction costs on track. "It's all perfect timing: We signed the compacts, cleared up any legal issues that we had with the state and went out and the financing was available," Gov. George Rivera told The Santa Fe New Mexican.
The tribe already operates one casino and two hotels on its reservation near Santa Fe.
