The Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake plan to negotiate a Class III gaming compact with the state of California before breaking ground on the tribe's first casino.
The tribe's land-into-trust application was approved on July 18. Plans call for a 35,000-square-foot facility with 49 slot machines, table games, a restaurant and a bar.
The tribe has agreed to pay Lake County the equivalent of property taxes and reduced its land-into-trust application from 60 acres to 11 acres.
