City rejects Cowlitz Tribe's offer on casino

The city council in La Center, Washington, has again rejected a casino agreement with the Cowlitz Tribe.

The tribe is willing to pay up to $3 million a year for 10 years and address other impacts of the Cowlitz Casino Resort. But one council member said the deal "stinks" and others say they aren't ready to negotiate with the tribe.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is moving to acquire 152 acres for the tribe for the casino, housing and other purposes. The final environmental impact statement was published on May 30.
