The Seminole Tribe of Florida plans to install 1,000 slot machines at its Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood. The machines will go live at 11:30am on Monday. That's two days before the Florida Supreme Court hears a lawsuit over the legality of the tribe's Class III gaming compact. But the tribe says it can go ahead since the Bureau of Indian Affairs approved the compact. It was published in the Federal Register on January 7. Florida Republicans are suing Gov. Charlie Crist (R) in state court. They say Crist overstepped his authority by allowing the tribe to operate Class III games. Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum sued the BIA in federal court in hopes of delaying action on the compact. A federal judge in Washington, D.C., refused to impose a preliminary injunction.
