Not all tribes oppose BIA off-reservation policy

Not all tribes are upset with the Bush administration's new policy that restricts off-reservation gaming.

An attorney for the Cayuga Nation of New York said the policy will stop reservation shopping. "We see it as having a very positive impact because the ruling essentially prohibits Indian nations from reservation shopping," Daniel French told The Syracuse Post-Standard.

The Cayugas opposed attempts by the Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma to open a casino in New York. The BIA rejected the Seneca-Cayuga application last Friday, saying it was too far from the reservation for tribal members to commute for jobs.
