The Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation in Washington broke ground on a new casino on Monday.
The $24 million Omak Casino will be located near the site of the Okanogan Bingo Casino. The tribe will keep the bingo hall operating after the new 58,000 square-foot facility opens.
Tribal leaders say the casino will generate about $20 million a year. They say gaming has been one of the few bright spots in the reservation economy.
"Really, our savior has been the casino, for this corporation," John MacClain, the chairman of the Colville Tribal Enterprise Corporation, said, The Wenatchee World reported.
