A group called Voices for Rural Living plans to sue to stop water service to the casino owned by the Shingle Springs
Band of Miwok Indians of California.
The tribe plans to open the Red Hawk Casino in December. An agreement with the El Dorado Irrigation District will supply water to the facility.
The tribe is paying for connection fees and for the service but Voices for Rural Living believes the casino will hurt the local water supply. The group says the irrigation district violated state law by entering into the agreement.
Last week, the tribe signed a Class III gaming compact with some of the highest revenue-sharing rates in the state.
