Eastern Cherokees to continue $650M casino expansion

The casino owned by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians will undergo a $650 million expansion. The expansion will double the size of the gaming floor at the Harrah's Cherokee Casino. The tribe will add 5,200 games, a 3,000-seat event center, a parking tower, a 16,000-square-foot spa and new restaurants by 2012. The casino saw a 5.6 percent increase in revenues last year. Tribal leaders are considering a measure to legalize sales of alcohol in hopes of bringing in more customers. Get the Story:
