The Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma opened the $301 million Downstream Casino
Resort to large crowds on Saturday.
Within a hour of opening, more than 10,000 people filled the gaming floor, the tribe said. Traffic was backed up to the facility, which is located in Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri.
“We built something faster, quicker and bigger than anybody in history has done,” said J.R. Mathews, vice chairman of the the tribe's Downstream Development Authority, The Joplin Globe reported.
The gaming part of the facility was built in less than a year. A hotel and conference center will open this fall.
