For two years in a row, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) has refused to release gaming revenues to local communities.
Tribes with Class III gaming compacts contribute to a special distribute fund to address the impacts of gaming. But Schwarzenegger has vetoed applications submitted by local governments, citing concerns with the way they use the money.
This past year alone, $30 million is being held back. Tribes, local governments and lawmakers are seeking ways to release the money because the law that created the distribution formula is due to expire at the end of 2009.
The balance in the special distribution fund is $182 million, The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported.
