The Shawnee Tribe. says the public will get another chance to comment on its proposed Oklahoma City casino.
The tribe filed a land-into-trust application to use 104 acres for gaming purposes. The Bureau of Indian Affairs was taking comments until June 10.
Another comment period will open next year. The BIA is presumably preparing an environmental impact statement on the project.
Gov. Brad Henry (D), some members of Congress and other state officials oppose the casino. They say it will hurt a nearby racetrack.
The tribe was recognized by an
act of Congress in 2000.
