After winning an election to represent card dealers at the casino owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut, the United Auto Workers union is trying to represent slot machine technicians.
The UAW was competing with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers to represent the estimated 120 technicians at the Foxwoods Resort Casino. Both unions are affiliates of the AFL-CIO.
To settle the matter, the AFL-CIO held a closed-door arbitration session and ruled for UAW. The New London Day said the decision cited UAW's successful effort among card dealers.
