Mohegans and Seminoles bid for New York City racino
Monday, May 5, 2008
The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut and the Seminole Tribe of Florida are bidding for a racino in New York City. The state has authorized 4,500 slot machines at the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens. A decision on the three bids is expected "in a matter of weeks," The New York Times reported. The Mohegans are part of a team called Capital Play that envisions a facility like the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. “You have to build a hotel, and retail, so it becomes a Mohegan-style complex, so it’s not focused on gaming as much as entertainment,” Karl O’Farrell, the president and chief executive of Capital Play, told the Times. “There will be good-quality restaurants, nightclubs.” The Seminoles are using their recently acquired Hard Rock brand to pursue the racino. The tribe's group says it can put a temporary facility on the ground by the end of the year. Get the Story:
