The
Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut will debut a $1 billion expansion of the
Mohegan Sun Casino in August.
Known as the Casino of the Wind, the facility features 350,000 square-feet of gaming space, a 919-room hotel, 40,000-square-feet of retail space and a concert venue.
"When you go to Las Vegas, you'll see they spent $1 billion," Chief Executive Mitchell Grossinger Etess tells Forbes.Com. "They built a fake pyramid, a fake Venice, a fake New York, Paris--and then at Mohegan Sun, when we spent $1 billion ... we basically brought the culture of the Mohegan Tribe to life."
Project Horizon began two years ago at an expected cost of $740 million. An increase in construction expenses boosted the price tag to $1 billion.
