TheBureau of
Indian Affairs held a second public hearing on the off-reservation casino sought by the Warm Springs Tribes of Oregon.
The tribe plans to build a $389 million casino at Cascade Locks, which used
to be part of Warm Springs treaty territory. The 60-acre gaming site is about 69
miles from the northwestern border of the reservation.
Opponents include the Confederated Tribes of Grand
Ronde and conservation groups. The gaming site is within the Columbia River Gorge.
The BIA will hold three more hearings on March 12, March 13 and March 17.
