Voters in Miami-Dade County, Florida, approved slot machines at racetracks on Tuesday.
The same issue was rejected by county voters in 2005. But with slot machines already legal in a neighboring county -- and with the Seminole Tribe installing the games at its casinos -- the referendum passed by a 2 to 1 margin.
The 2005 vote in Broward County paved the way for the Seminole Tribe's Class III compact with the state.
The tribe started running slot machines on Monday.
The Miccosukee Tribe has been working on a compact with the state.
