"Vote Yes on Propositions 94, 95, 96 and 97. The Indian gaming compacts that have already been negotiated and approved by the California Legislature and signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger will pump billions into the state and the local economy, creating jobs and improving tourism in the valley.
The compacts, now on the Feb. 5 ballot as referenda, were put there by racetracks that want their own slot machines, smaller gaming tribes that fear the competition, and labor unions aiming to organize casinos.
Considering the opposition, voters should know that helping them by sinking the compacts could mean the loss of billions to state coffers that would help balance the budget and pay for services without raising taxes. A "no" vote also could jeopardize $1 billion in tourism and about 2,000 future local jobs."
