Only 42 percent of California voters support four controversial gaming compacts, according to a new Field Poll.
The poll showed 37 percent of respondents opposed the compacts that are on the February 5 ballot.
Another 21 percent said they were undecided.
The compacts are for the Agua Caliente Band of
Cahuilla Indians, the Morongo Band of Mission
Indians, the Pechanga Band of
Luiseño Indians and the Sycuan
Band of the Kumeyaay Nation. They allow the tribes to add up to 17,000 slot machines to their casinos in exchange for a share of the revenues.
The tribes and their supporters have spent nearly $84 million on their campaign. Opponents have raised nearly $26 million.
