Supervisors in Sonoma County, California, are debating a referendum on the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria’s proposed casino.
A local attorney is leading the push to put the casino before county voters.
But any referendum needs approval by the county board of supervisors at least 88 days before an election.
The tribe won recognition through an act of Congress. The law states the tribe can acquire land in Sonoma or Marin counties.
