The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe operate two of the largest casinos in the world on their reservations in Connecticut.
The tribes have been slowly expanding their empires elsewhere in the nation. Their latest target is New York City, where both tribes have submitted bids to operate a race track with slot machines in the borough of Queens.
The tribes aren't alone in their quest. Five other groups, including the Seneca Nation of New York, are also vying for a state license to run the Aqueduct Racetrack.
