Editorial: Worthy lawsuit on Seminole compact

"As a rule, it is futile and wasteful for one government agency to sue another.

A worthy exception is Florida Attorney General Bill McCollum suing to stop the U.S. Department of the Interior from formalizing a 25-year pact with the Seminole Tribe of Florida for casino gambling in the Sunshine State.

This legal exercise has substance.

With some Florida legislators arguing they ought to have the right of review and consent before enactment, McCollum reasons it would be better to settle the checks-and-balances contention now rather than later when plans and even construction at sites such as Immokalee are further along."
