Grand Traverse Band to distribute gaming funds

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians will be distributing an estimated $1 million in casino revenues this winter.

Under a consent decree, the tribe shares 2 percent of slot machine revenues with local governments. Distributions occur twice a year -- in the winter and the summer.

The tribe accepts request for funding until December 31. The Leelenau Enterprise said the tribe receives twice as many requests as it can fulfill.

The summer payout is usually around $775,000, the paper said.
