Navajo Nation faces suit over casino legislation

The Navajo Nation is facing a lawsuit over its first casino.

Lawyer James Zion plans to sue on behalf of tribal members who are challenging legislation that authorized the tribe to secure a $100 million line of credit for the casino. The plaintiffs say the executive branch was given too much authority to negotiate the deal without oversight of the Navajo Nation Council.

The tribe is using the line of credit to open its first casino in New Mexico. A temporary facility is expected to open in July 2008.
