California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) filed a brief in a case that seeks to halt a February 2008 vote on four Class III gaming compacts.
The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians sued to block the referendum. The tribe says gaming compacts can't be put to a public vote.
Schwarzenegger agrees and says the referendum will distract voters from other issues. The governor asked the court to resolve the case quickly.
