The Passamaquoddy Tribe of Maine won't be able to open a racino in Washington County, according to results of a statewide vote on Tuesday.
News reports said voters narrowly rejected the racino. With more than 80 percent of the precincts reporting, The Portland Press Herald said 52 percent said no while 48 percent said yes.
Gov. Richard Doyle of the tribe's Pleasant Point Reservation said he was "very disappointed" by the outcome.
The tribe hoped the racetrack with slot machines would revitalize the county.
A group called CasinosNo! campaigned against the racino.
