Mississippi governor opposes Choctaw casino

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R) opposes the off-reservation casino sought by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians

The tribe wants 100 acres in Jackson County placed in trust for gaming purposes. The site is more than 200 miles from the reservation.

"If for some stupid reason the Bureau of Indian Affairs agrees to it, I will not approve it. As long as I'm governor, it won't happen," Barbour told WLOX.

Under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, Barbour has final say over the use of the land for a casino.
