Editorial: More gaming on the way in Florida

"We knew, like it or not, that more Las Vegas-style gambling is on the way for Florida.

When the U.S. Interior Department tells Florida to strike a deal, or else, with the Seminole Tribe of Florida, the state doesn’t have much real bargaining power — even though Florida voters time after time have resisted full-scale, widespread casino action. Voters seem to understand that when it comes to a sustainable, diversified economy, there are few instant jackpots. You have to do the work.

Now, with Florida trying to salvage some sort of payoff from casinos, comes the realization that there may be even more gambling than met the eye. Our existing gambling industry — such as horse and dog tracks that have already branched out to other games — are lobbying for their additional share as well."
