City rejects Gabrielino-Tongva casino proposal

The city council in Garden Grove, California, rejected an unrecognized tribe's casino proposal.

A faction of the Gabrielino-Tongva Tribe promised the city $5.1 billion over 30 years, $100 million in infrastructure improvements and 10,000 jobs. But the council voted in favor of an entertainment venue and water park.

Since the tribe lacks federal recognition, the deal would have required a change in state law.
