The state of Florida has until September 11 to report progress on compact negotiations with the Seminole Tribe.
The state had until Tuesday to come to an agreement. But the Interior Department extended the deadline after both sides said negotiations were ongoing.
The tribe is seeking the right to offer slot machines, which are no longer outlawed in the state. The tribe reportedly wants table games as well.
Gov. Charlie Crist (R) said revenues from the Class III machines could be used to fill holes in the state's budget. At issue is $1.1 billion in pending cuts.
