Saginaw Chippewa Tribe prepares for new casino

The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan held a ceremonial groundbreaking on Tuesday for its new casino.

The tribe plans a modest facility on trust land in Saganing, a historic Chippewa community near Standish. The 32,000-square-foot casino will have more than 700 slot machines and 40 electronic table games.

The casino is expected to open by the end of the year. It will employ about 300 people.

The tribe operates the much larger Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort in Mt. Pleasant.
