Ontario First Nations reject $2.5B gaming deal

First Nations leaders on Ontario have rejected a $2.5 billion gaming deal with the province.

The province offered the money in order to settle a tax dispute. Casino Rama, a Native-run gaming facility, has been charged a 20 percent tax on gross revenues that First Nations say is unlawful.

Ontario Regional Chief Angus Toulouse said the proposed deal would have infringed on tribal sovereignty and would have relinquished Native control of Casino Rama.
