Leaders in the town of Middleboro delayed a vote on a casino deal with the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts.
The tribe has offered $7 million a year plus an estimated $150 million in infrastructure improvements.
The tribe still needs land placed in trust, as well as a Class III gaming compact, but the speed at which the deal was arranged has alarmed residents.
The town has hired Dennis Whittlesey, who has represented a number of tribes seeking federal recognition. Whittlesey said the land-into-trust process could take quite some time.
