Wyandotte Nation rebuilds casino in Kansas City

The Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma has returned to Kansas City, Kansas, to resurrect its casino.

The tribe owns land in the city that is held in trust. The tribe opened a Class II facility there but it was shut down after a raid by the state.

The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals later ruled that the state lacked authority to enter the land. Then a federal judge said the Interior Department erred by rejecting the tribe's casino plans. Yet another ruling rejected the state's claims that the land can't be used for gaming.

A ruling on the gaming issue is still pending before the court. But the tribe has already moved forward with the Wyandotte Palace Casino.
