Texas tribes lobby for restoration of gaming

The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe and the Tigua Tribe are pushing lawmakers to approve a bill that would allow Class III gaming.

The tribes used to operate Class III casinos until they were shut down by the state. The state has refused to negotiate a compact.

House Bill 10 would restore the tribes' gaming rights. It is being debated on the House floor today.

The tribes are also asking the Bureau of Indian Affairs for help. The agency can issue Class III rules in cases where the state refuses to negotiate.
