A bill to require legislative approval for off-reservation casinos was approved by the Wisconsin Assembly on Tuesday.
The Assembly voted 57-37 on the bill. Supporter say lawmakers, in addition to the governor, should have a role in off-reservation gaming.
Gov. Jim Doyle (D) has said he will veto the measure. Senate Majority Leader Judy Robson, a Democrat, doesn't plan to bring it up for a vote.
The Forest County Potawatomi Tribe, which operates an off-reservation casino in Milwaukee, supported the bill. The tribe opposes an off-reservation casino proposed by the Menominee Nation.
